Police say they issued tickets and broke up gatherings in several places in British Columbia on New Year’s Eve in keeping with COVID-19 safety rules.
Vancouver police say they responded to 34 calls for gatherings and issued four tickets of $ 2,300 each to event organizers.
Victoria police, meanwhile, say they issued three tickets on New Year’s Eve to a man who they allege refused to wear a mask in a cab, touched the cab driver’s face and didn’t follow officers’ commands to leave the vehicle.
They say the man was fined $ 690 for failing to wear a facial covering, abusive or belligerent behaviour, and failing to comply with the direction of an officer.
They say this is the largest number of fines given to a person by Victoria officers.
