Incarcerated Tiger King star Joe Exotic is reportedly preparing to request U.S. leader Donald Trump overturns his criminal conviction.
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness follows the exploits of Joe Exotic, a prolific tiger breeder, who ran a popular illegal zoo in Oklahoma and was sentenced to 22 years in jail for plotting to kill animal rights activist Carole Baskin and other wildlife violations.
While the show proved a massive hit on Netflix, sources told TMZ Exotic is now readying a case in favour of his release from jail, claiming he was wrongly convicted for the murder-for-hire plot.
The star’s legal team has wrapped a bus with an ad campaign, reading “President Trump please pardon Joe Exotic” and “Team Tiger,” and they reportedly plan to roll out the big announcement in a few days.
Despite protesting his innocence, Joe repeatedly expressed he wanted Baskin dead, and the alleged hitman, Allen Glover, was the star witness at Exotic’s trial — because he’s the only one who took money from Joe.
Glover said Exotic gave him US$ 3,000 to kill his rival — but Exotic insists the money was exchanged to get Allen out of the zoo.
The former zoo keeper was also charged with killing tigers, but his lawyers feel it was done to tarnish his reputation and encourage the jury to convict him of ordering the hit on Carol.
When asked about the Tiger King star’s case last month, Trump told press: “I know nothing about it. He has 22 years for what — what did he do?”
The businessman-turned-politician went on to ask reporters if they would “recommend a pardon,” and added: “I’ll take a look.”
