Kim Cattrall ad for Nintendo’s Super Mario resurfaces 8 years later, goes viral

An eight-year-old Nintendo advertisement featuring Kim Cattrall reprising her Sex And The City character went viral Wednesday.

The actress, who portrayed Samantha Jones on TV and the big screen, starred in the seductive campaign in 2012, in which her most famous creation gushes over the Super Mario 3D Land video game from her bed, while wearing a satin robe.

“I’ve discovered a new way of enjoying my spare time… Run Mario Run! I go on magical adventures with a certain Mario,” she said in the video. “And guess what. He’s totally into dressing up. That tanuki suit is my particular favourite.”

She then adds, “There are many men in my life, but for a few minutes, or a few hours, I’ll always find time for Mario.”

The ad, shared to Twitter early Wednesday morning by a Netflix employee, was retweeted more than 3,000 times and received more than 18,000 likes.

Cattrall, channelling her on-screen character, responded to the tweet by sharing one of her lines from the ad: “I’ll always find time for Mario.”

The ad, which ran in Britain for two weeks, was for a Nintendo UK campaign to illustrate women having fun at any age.

“I think it’s really important for women to take time out to play and Mario games are so much fun,” Cattrall said at the time. “An added bonus is that my nephew thinks I am the coolest aunty.”

In recent years, Cattrall has made it clear she doesn’t want to bring Jones back for a second Sex and the City movie sequel, and reteam with former co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, driving a wedge between her and Parker.

She did however join her castmates last month and called into the Bradshaw Boys podcast to share words of encouragement for those risking their health as they fight the coronavirus pandemic.
