Actress Hilarie Burton is joining her husband Jeffrey Dean Morgan onscreen after landing a guest role as his TV wife in hit zombie series The Walking Dead.
The former One Tree Hill star will play Negan’s late love Lucille in one of the six bonus episodes U.S. network bosses at AMC recently ordered for the show’s current Season 10.
In the comic books the drama is based on, Lucille died from cancer as the zombie apocalypse hit, and Negan went on to name his trusty weapon of choice — a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire — after his dead wife.
Burton shared her joy at her casting in a Twitter post on Tuesday, after responding to a fan’s note about her new role.
“Been pretty hard to keep this a secret,” she wrote. “But I love working with @JDMorgan. I love watching him become #Negan and take on that swagger.
“And I love the @TheWalkingDead family. They’ve been a part of our family for ages and I’m so grateful for their kindness…”
The additional episodes of Season 10 are set to air in 2021.
Burton and Morgan, who share two children, wed last year.
